Become a Volunteer - we would love to have you!

“Giving feels good! Knowing that I’ve helped someone; well, it makes me happy!” C.M.

“To me, volunteering is a civic responsibility. It’s not exactly like casting a vote; but, it is a voice in the community.” F.M.

Before you decide which of the Programs is a good fit for you, we want to make sure you are aware that ALL volunteering through the Wellness Collaborative is on YOUR schedule!

All of the programs work like this:

  1. a request for service is received

  2. the opportunity is presented to the trained volunteers in that Program

  3. a volunteer 'raises their hand' IF it fits their schedule

Volunteer opportunities are available in:

BC Meals - If you like to cook, this may be for you. BC Meals is a food delivery program for people needing short-term assistance due to to illness, recovering from surgery, a death in the family or other extenuating circumstances. The purpose of the program is to allow individuals to maintain healthy nutritional standards and to meet dietary needs.

BC Rides - Maybe you like to drive. BC Rides has been developed to assist residents who require help with non-emergency transportation services - medical appointments. We also offer to pick up mail, groceries or prescriptions at IGA, or take trash to the North Gate facility. Transportation will be provided within a 60-mile radius from the Big Canoe Main Gate.

BC Visits - If you enjoy meeting and visiting with your neighbors, check this out. BC Visits is a program to assist residents that need companion services for their spouse, family member or for themselves. We will provide respite for caregivers, and will also provide a service to check in (either telephonically or in-person) on clients who, for whatever reason have become shut-ins.

BC Info - If you enjoy talking with your neighbors and finding ways to help them out, this program may be for you. BC Info is the help-line, first point of contact with the Wellness Collaborative for most of our clients. The BC Info volunteers assess eligibility, provide resource and referral info, and connect eligible clients with appropriate program coordinators.
